Men's Golf Wraps up Season at SCAC Championships

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University men's golf team took to the New Course at White Bluff Golf Resort in Whitney, Texas, for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The teams played 18 holes each day in the 54-hole tournament that extended from Sunday, April 21st, through Tuesday, April 23rd. The Pirates finished seventh in the field of seven teams. Southwestern shot a total team score of 945 (306, 313, 326) and was +81 as a team for the tournament. The Pirates finished one shot behind the sixth-place finisher, Dallas, two behind Texas Lutheran, and five behind the fourth-place finisher, Centenary. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Ethan Bridges sat in a tie for tenth place, carding a +3, 75 after round one. 
  • Ricky Mitchell, Sam McClure and Matthew Peesker rounded out the scoring for the Pirates in round one, each shooting +5, 77.
  • Bryce Stiemert and Ethan Bridges both shot rounds of 77 in round number two, with Bridges holding a tie for eighth at the end of round two.
  • The Pirate's highest finisher was Bridges, who ended T13 with a total 54-hole score of 234.

NOTES

  • Southwestern was second in the field in scoring average on Par 3's (3.40) for the championship.
  • The Pirates recorded the second-most pars (153) for the tournament, one behind the first-place team, Schreiner. 
  • Mitchell averaged 3.25 on Par 3's in the championship and was eighth in the field in that category.
