Men's Golf Opens Day 1 of the Rhodes College Fall Classic in Second

TUNICA, Miss. — The Southwestern University Pirates men's golf team sits in second place after Day 1 of the Rhodes College Fall Classic, trailing Huntingdon College by nine strokes heading into Round 3 on Monday morning.

The Pirates were steady as a team, differing by only one stroke in their round-to-round performance, finishing the first round in a tie for first place after shooting 290 and scoring 280 in the second for a total of 579. 

Huntingdon College shaved 10 stroked off their first-round performance, finishing six under par after 36 holes of play with Drew Mathers pacing the field atop the individual leaderboard with a 135 at nine under par. 

Cade Osgood made a big move for the Pirates in Round 2 shooting a 68 after scoring a 73 in the first round, moving up from a tie for 10th place to third at three under par. Osgood did most of his damage on the Par 5 holes, going five under. 

Teammate Christian Rodriguez followed in a tie for fourth place with Huntingdon's Carson Whitton at two under. Rodriguez was stead all day, leading the tournament in made pars with 28. 

John Kellum shot 73 in both rounds, finishing the day in a tie for 16th while Colin O'Hern struggled in the second round, dropping from 15th to 53rd after adding six strokes to his first round score with an 80. Southwestern will continue tomorrow at 8 a.m.
