Men’s Golf Competes in Golfweek October Classic

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Men's Golf traveled to the Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Florida to compete in the Golfweek Classic October 15th - 17th. The course was set at Par 71, 6,621 yards. 

Freshman Sam McClure led the Pirates in the first round, shooting an even 71 with two birdies,  followed by Matthew Peesker and Bryce Stiemert carding 74 (+3) and 75 (+4) respectively. The Pirates as a group shot 297 in round one.

The Pirates were unable to improve on round one, gaining three shots in round two to shoot 300 as a team. Peesker improved two shots in his second round, however, Steimert and McClure both went seven over, 78. Fellow freshman Ricky Mitchell took strides from round one to round two carding a 72 (+1) in his second time out. At the end of the second round, Southwestern held 19th place in the 25-team tournament. 

Southwestern as a team had their best performance in the final round of the tournament, putting together a score of 295 as a team with every team member shooting 76 or below. The round was highlighted by Mitchell who was the only member to break par for the tournament for the Pirates. Logan Pullin, McClure, and Stiemert all carded rounds of +4 to end the Golfweek Classic. The Pirates finished 21st in the tournament. 

The Golfweek Classic concludes the men's fall season and the Pirates will look ahead to the spring where they will host the conference tournament at the end of the year.
