Button Ties for Fifth; Pirates Finish 14th At NCAA Men's Golf Championship

DESTIN, Fla. - Southwestern University junior Cameron Button shot a 75 (+4) during the final round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship and finished in a tie for fifth as the Pirates finished in 14th place in the team standings. Official Site | Results 

Button, who held the individual lead through two rounds, shot a one-under par 34 on the front nine to begin the final round. He followed that up with a five-over par 41 on the back nine to finish the tournament at +5 and was just three shots back from finishing in second place.

Teammate James Charles, who shot a team-best 74 in yesterday's third round, finished in a tie for 12th as the senior shot a fourth round score of 72 (+1). His score was once again good for the team lead. Charles finished at +8 for the tournament.

Also scoring for Southwestern was Cody Hebert (72). He was also joined by teammates Jordan Cowart and  and Michael Gebhardt who each carded 84's on the day (+13). However, only one of the 84's counted in the team score as the other was not counted.

Texas-Tyler won its first Division III Men's Golf national championship as the Patriots overcame a two shot deficit to Transylvania. Texas-Tyler finished at +27, seven shots ahead of the Pioneers. Rounding out the top five was Methodist (+48), Emory (+51) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (+54). 

This marked Southwestern's first appearance in the Division III Men's Golf Championship in school history.
