Pirate golfers compete with nation's best at Gordin Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Southwestern kept pace with an impressive field Tuesday at the Gordin Classic on the Columbus Country Club earning a seventh place finish.

Despite seeing their score rise by only one stroke, the Pirates slipped one place to seventh after a three round score of 889. Wittenberg University leaped over St. John Fisher to take home the team title with an 863 while St. John Fisher fired an 876 to finish second.

Individually, Jordan Cowart finished 12th to lead the pirates with a 220. Cowart was just eight shots off the lead as John Chaney of Wittenberg fired a 212 to win the tournament.

With some of the top NCAA Division III golfers in the field the scores in the top 30 came into the clubhouse in a bunch. Cameron Button finished tied for 22nd after a 223 which was just 11 strokes behind the leader.

Cody Herbert and James Grachos both finished in the top 40 as they carded scores of 226 and 228 respectively.

 Southwestern takes a couple weeks off before closing out its fall season October 21 at the Alamo Classic hosted by Trinity University.
