Men's Golf In Third After Day 1 of the SCAC Championships

BLANCO, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates men's golf team opened up its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) title defense looking up at the University of Dallas and Texas Lutheran University through the first two rounds.

The Pirates opened the first round shooting a 301, tied with Texas Lutheran and six strokes below Dallas, which shot 295 in each of the first two rounds to pace the field with a score of 590.

Southwestern slipped even further behind in the second round, shooting a 305, which was fourth in the round behind Dallas (295), Texas Lutheran (296), and Schreiner (302) to fall to third with a total score of 606.

No Pirate finished the day in the top 10 with Cade Osgood, Sutherland Stith, Matthew Christl, and Devon Horne each finishing nine over par with a score of 153, tied for 12th.

Osgood struggled in the first round, finishing three over on the Par 4 third hole. Birdies on a pair of Par 5 holes helped mitigate the damage some but shooting two over on the Par 4 sixth hole put Osgood three over in the front nine. He only made par on four holes on the back nine, including one birdie, to finish the first round 10 over par.

He recovered in Round 2, breaking even on the front nine and picking up a birdie on Hole 18 to finish one under.

Stith struggled on the front nine of Round 2, finishing two over par on three holes and one over on Hole 9. Three birdies on the back nine helped to stabilize his score.

Christl was less prone to wild swings, finishing with two birdies and making par on 24 of the 36 holes. Horne finished nine over par in Round 1 but recovered with four birdies in Round 2.
