
BLANCO, Texas— The Southwestern University men's golf team finished the first round of the SCAC Conference Preview at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club in a tie with McMurry University for third place, scoring a combined 295 to finish seven over par.
Christian Rodriguez, participating in the event as an individual, had the best performance for Southwestern golfers, scoring a 70 to finish second on the individual leaderboard.
Rodriguez led the event in pars, making 14 to finish two under for the round.
Cade Osgood paced the Pirates' five-man lineup, scoring a 72 to finish even, finishing the round in a tie for sixth place. Colin O'Hern rounded out the Pirates in the top 10, shooting a 73 to finish one over and in a tie for eighth place.
Austin Kelley shot a 74 for a tie in 17th, Thomas Kuznar scored a 76 for a tie for 22nd, and John Kellum tied for 42nd with an 81.
Trinity University finished the day in the overall lead, scoring a 289 to finish one over par. Mary Hardin-Baylor followed with a 291. Southwestern will conclude the event with two rounds tomorrow.
