Murphy rallies Pirates for second place finish

TUNICA, Miss. – Connor Murphy fell one stroke shy of claiming the individual title Monday at the Rhodes Fall Classic as the Southwestern University men's golf team rallied for a second place finish.

Murphy fired a final round 69 which was just one shot behind the day's low round. However he came up one shot behind individual champion Chris Harris of host school Rhodes who posted a 143 over the two-day tournament as Murphy finished with a 144.

Murphy finished tied for 3rd and was one of three Pirates to earn top 10 finishes as Southwestern rallied on the final day to finish in second with a team score of 588. Southwestern was just five shots behind UT-Tyler who took home team honors as the Pirates edged SCAC foe Texas Lutheran by two strokes and host Rhodes who finished fourth.

Jordan Cowart and Cody Hebert finished tied for 9th as the duo entered the clubhouse on Monday with a two-day score of 146. Hebert was consistent with back-to-back days of 73 while Cowart finished with a second round 74 to follow up a 72 from Sunday's round.

Tyler Gammill rounded out the scoring for Southwestern with a 78-74-152 to finish tied for 28th.

Andrew DeHennis improved on his Sunday round posting a 77 on Monday to finish at 157 for the tournament.

Southwestern returns to Texas as they will take on Cowan Creek in Georgetown as part of the Mary Hardin-Baylor Invitational on September 22 and 23.
