Pirates Challenged Against Nations Best

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Southwestern men's golf team faced their toughest competition yet, in both the course and players and finished in 11th place at the Royal Lakes Invitational.

Jordan Cowart came out blazing on day one, shooting a 71 to lead the Pirates. It was also tied for the third lowest opening round. He ended the tournament with 148 strokes (71-77) to end tied for 11th. 

Cody Hebert, Cameron Button and James Charles all posted consistent rounds throughout. Hebert finished with 155 strokes (76-79) and tied for 41st, Button (78-78) in a tie for 49th place with 156 strokes and Charles just behind with 157 strokes (78-79) and tied for 56th. Mikey Vaughan had a rough start to the tournament with an 84, but bounced back on day to with a 76 to end tied for 66th with 160 strokes. 

As a team the Pirates combined for a team score of 613. Defending national-champions and host institution, Oglethorpe, won the event with an 582. Southwestern was just 10 strokes out of the top five. 

Southwestern closes out their fall season at the Trinity Alamo Classic on October 22-23 in San Antonio, Texas.
