Pirates finish third at West Region Invite

GEORGETOWN – Cody Hebert and the Southwestern University men's golf team battled stiff winds Tuesday to earn third place finishes at the 2014 West Region Invitational at Berry Creek Country Club.

Hebert opened play on Monday with a 72 – the second lowest round of the day – before finishing his second round with a 76. The sophomore pushed through the high winds on Tuesday morning to fire a 78 and finish with a 226 for the tournament, tied for third.

Jordan Cowart finished eighth to give the Pirates two players in the top 10 as he posted a score of 231. Cowart's lowest round came Monday afternoon with a 77 after carding a 75 in the morning and a 79 on Tuesday.

Cameron Button, James Grachos and Andrew DeHennis all earned top 25 finishes helping the Pirates to a 932 team score and third place finish. Southwestern finished behind second place Schreiner with a 909 as UT-Tyler took home top honors with a 905.

Buddy Hallman of UT-Tyler and Matt McClung of Schreiner tied for the individual title each posting scores of 221 respectively. Hallman posted the weeks the lowest round of the tournament with a 71 on Monday.

The Pirates will take the next week off before preparing for the SCAC Championships April 21-22 at Tapatio Springs Resort in Boerne, Texas.
