Men’s Golf Takes Seventh at West Cup

Southwestern faced some of the toughest competition in Division III at the West Cup in California and had a strong showing, finishing in seventh overall out of 15 teams.

The Pirates were hot at the start and ended the opening round just one shot out of the lead and in second place after posting a team score of 289. After a 297 in the second round and 308 in the third Southwestern dropped to seventh but were still just 14 strokes behind the tournament winners, Claremont Mudd Scripps and the University of La Verne.

Michael Gebhardt led the charge for Southwestern, coming in tied for 17th with 220 strokes (70-73-77). James Charles was just three strokes behind with a 223 (74-73-76) and finished tied for 25th. Cameron Button tied for 32nd with a 225 (74-73-78) while Jordan Cowart finished tied for 37th  with 226 strokes (71-78-77). Cody Hebert rounded out the Pirate play with 241 strokes (78-82-81), ending tied for 77th.

Southwestern returns to the links on April 8th as they kick off the West Region Invitational in Georgetown.
