Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at ASC Preview

BROWNWOOD, Texas — The No. 11-ranked Southwestern University Pirates men's golf team improved its first-day score by 11 strokes, finishing sixth at the ASC Preview with a combined score of 597 to finish five over par. 

Each of the five members of the Pirates' lineup held steady or improved their their first-round score, shooting a 293 in the second round. 

Cade Osgood held steady with a 73 on both days, scoring a 146 with a team-high seven birdies. The senior All-American started strong, picking up three birdies in his first three holes. He failed to make up ground, however, bogeying twice on the front nine and twice on the back nine. 

John Kellum and Christian Rodriguez each improved their first-round score by three strokes, finishing tied for 20th after matching Osgood's second-round score of 73. 

Kellum was solid, leading the Pirates with 23 made pars, picking up 14 in the second round, but had a bogey and double-bogey offset two birdies on the day. Rodriguez finished with 22 made pars and five birdies, picking up three bogeys and a double-bogey in the second round. 

Austin Kelley showed the greatest improvement from one round to the next, scoring a 74 after shooting 81 in the first round to finish tied for 34th. Kelley picked up one birdie and 14 pars on the second day. Thomas Kuznar improved his score by two strokes, finishing tied for 39th with a score of 156. 

The ASC Preview concludes the fall portion of the Pirates' schedule.
