Men's Golf Completes 27 Holes on Day One at Royal Lakes Invitational

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. - The Southwestern University men's golf team shot a first round score of 294 (+6) before starting the front nine of round two with a +4 to sit in eighth after the first day of Royal Lakes Invitational.

In order to beat Hurricane Nate, 27 holes were completed on Saturday, October 7, 2017, including all of Round 1 and half of Round 2. Teams began Round 2 in the same order and pairings as Round 1, due to logistics. The final nine (9) holes of Round 2 (Final Round of 36-hole event) will be completed beginning Sunday morning.

Currently Greensboro leads the event followed by Emory and North Carolina Wesleyan. Carnegie Mellon sits in fourth as Rochester rounds out the top five. Southwestern sat in fourth place following the first round before moving to finish half of round two.

Sophomore Cade Osgood leads the Pirates thus far, shooting a 71 (-1) in round one and is currently -3 in round two to sit in fifth individually. Junior Matthew Christl shot a 72 (E) and is currentlt even through nine holes to sit 16th.

Senior Tyler Gammill shot a 78 (+6) and is +1 through round two while junior Devon Horne shot a 73 (+1) and is +7 through round two. Rounding out the Pirates is sophomore Andrew Augustine, shooting an 80 (+8) in round one while sitting +6 through round two.

The Pirates will tee off at 8 AM on Sunday morning to wrap up the event and get home as fast as possible to avoid Hurricance Nate, along with the other 17 teams competing at the event.
