GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Men's Golf came away victorious at the FST Invitational this week, placing first as a team at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Texas. Two Pirates battled it out in a playoff to decide the men's individual medalist. Sophomore Ethan Bridges and junior Matthew Peesker took to the first tee, a par three, to decide the winner. Bridges would walk away as the tournament first-place finisher after scoring a par on the first hole of the playoff between the two teammates. This marks the second win of the 2023-2024 season for the Pirates as well as their third top-two finish.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Southwestern finished twelve shots clear of the second-place finisher. The Pirates totaled 874 as a team for three rounds and shot a tournament-best 286 in round one.
- Bridges started off the tournament with a round of seven-under (65), collecting eight birdies and just one bogey in round one. Bridges carded 73 (+2) in round three, concluding at two-under for the tournament.
- Peesker shot +1 or better in each of his three rounds leading off in round one with a 73, followed by a three-under 69 and an even par 72. Peesker also finished his tournament at two-under par.
NOTES
- The Pirates ended with four Top-20 finishers. Ricky Mitchell finished at T15 and +9 for the competition (76, 76, 73).
- Bryce Stiemert was one shot behind his teammate Mitchell, carding rounds of 77, 71, and 78 to end at T20.
- As a team, the Pirates led the field in scoring average on Par 3s and Par 4s while also leading the field in total birdies.
