Pirates on bubble after day one at NCAA Championship

Pirates on bubble after day one at NCAA Championship

After the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship the Pirates sit on the bubble for the final cut from 41 teams down to 15. SU currently sits tied for 19th place with a 303.

Southwestern got out to a great start and sat as high as tied for eigth after the first nine holes. Cody Hebert was one under par at the turn and Sutherland Stith was right behind him at even par.

But muggy conditions and the blazing sun got to the Pirates on the back nine as they slipped out of the top ten by the end of the day. Tyler Gammill led the way for SU with a two over par 74 (t-47) while Stith ended at three over par (75). Hebert finished at four over par (76) and Jordan Cowart posted a 78 with Connor Murphy rounding out Southwestern with a 79.

Methodist College leads the field with a 284 team score while LaVerne's Kelby Scharmann leads the individual field with an astonishing six under par 66.

Southwestern will look to make up ground on day two as they tee off at 8:20 am on hole #10.
