SEGUIN, Texas – Last weekend the Southwestern men golf started the season by claiming first at TLU's annual John Bohmann Memorial Tournament.

Played at the par-71, the Southwestern Pirates claimed the title which would mark the first time since 2015 that an SCAC team won. The Pirates fired a three-day two-under score of 850 (290-277-283)  putting them ahead of TLU which finished second after firing a three-day score of 857 (288-289-280). Concordia (TX) would finish third with a three-day score of  858 (284-293-281). Other teams that competed were Centenary, Dallas, Trinity, LeTourneau University and East Texas Baptist  University.

There were seven of eight Southwestern players to finish in the top 15 of the tournament. Three Pirates - Cade Osgood, Matthew Christl, and Sutherland Stith - posted sub-par rounds in the second round. Osgood, the two-round leader, posted a 3-under 68 and earned the 3rd place finish. Christl and Stitch shot 2-under 69s.

Coach Greg Sigler noted that he thought the men's team did a great job dealing with adversity and tough conditions during the first day of the John Bohmann. "We played 36 holes Monday and for most of the day the rain was off and on, we finished the first round and were about six holes in the second round when play was delayed due to rain," says Sigler after finishing 3rd under Concordia and TLU on the first day. However, Sigler says the team played really solid golf in the second round which is where the Pirates were able to take the lead. "After such an extended delay, it's sometimes tough to come out and be at your best. They went out with a positive mindset and were able to put themselves in a position to win the tournament," says Sigler.  

With the fall season off to a great start, the Pirates next event will be at Tunica National in Tunica, MS. The course is one that the Pirates look forward to playing on and Sigler thinks the field will be one of the best of the year.
