
ABILENE, Texas - The Southwestern University men's golf team shot a 308 (+24) on Monday afternoon to sit in first place after the opening round of the Abilene Intercollegiate at the Diamondback Golf Course.
No. 7 Concordia (TX) leads after the first round of play after shooting a 286 (+2), opening up a 15-stroke lead over second place Hardin-Simmons, who shot a 301 (+17). Texas Lutheran is fourth after shooting a 309 (+25) while Mary Hardin-Baylor is fifth at 312 (+28).
Junior Matthew Christl led the way with a 75 (+3) on Monday including two birdies to sit in a tie for eighth. Sophomore Cade Osgood followed with a 77 (+5) including two birdies and an eagle on two while senior Sutherland Stith finished with 12 pars for a 77 (+5).
Senior Tyler Gammill shot a 79 (+7) while senior Curtis Cuccia finished with an 81 (+9).
The Pirates will return to action on Tuesday for the final round as they tee off at 9:30 AM, paired with Concordia (TX) and Hardin-Simmons.
