Men’s Golf Ends in 15th at Jekyll Island Collegiate

Men’s Golf Ends in 15th at Jekyll Island Collegiate

In a very competitive field at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, the top six tournament teams shot -4 or better at the conclusion of the tournament. The work was cut out for the team going in, but the first round was good for the Pirates. Jr. Nicholas Hoisington and So. Logan Pullin both went even for the day and had a great start to the tournament. Fr. Bryce Stiemert followed close behind, going 1+, Sr. Christian Rodriguez shot 2+ for an overall good start.

The next day proved even better for the Pirates, with three out of the team's five members shooting under par. Rodriguez and Hoisington shot -2 for the day, while Stiemert improved by two strokes from the previous day, with a 71. Fr. Matthew Peesker improved massively from the day before, going from 83 to 75. With three of the five players going lower than par for the day, the Pirates moved into 11th place by the end of the second round.

The Pirates were in an excellent position to move up spots with only three shots between them and the top ten, but they were unable to maintain their positive direction on Sunday. Stiemert had a good round to finish up a strong tournament. He ended a collective even-par for his three days. Rodriguez would also have a solid end to a good weekend finishing with a 74 on the card. Hoisington, Peesker, and Pullin all showed the capability to put together a very good scorecard but could not do so on the final day, leaving the Pirates in 15th place at the end of the Jekyll Island Invitational.

The Pirates men's golf team will have the advantage next time out. They play in the West Region Invitational at their home course, Berry Creek Country Club, starting April 4th.
