Men's Golf Wins West Region Invitational

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Southwestern men's golf led from start to finish at the West Region Invitational, closing the event with a 300 in the third round to win the event with an 879, defeating second-place Texas Lutheran University by 12 strokes. 

The Pirates took advantage of Berry Creek's familiarity, placing the three in the top 10, including the top two, at their home course. 

Austin Kelley entered the final round with a one-stroke lead over teammate Colin O'Hern and the two tied with a 74 in the third round, making Kelley the overall winner with a 215. Kelley led the field by making 38 pars, including seven birdies. O'Hern finished second with a 216, putting in 11 birdies and making par 30 times. 

Christian Rodriguez finished the event with eight birdies, moving up from 10th to a tie for seventh with a three-round score of 225. Hunter Holloway and Nicholas Hoisington finished in the top 25. Holloway fell off his first-day pace with an 81 in the third round to finish in 15th with a score of 228. Hoisington stayed steady with his second-consecutive 77, finishing with a score of 232, tied for 22nd. 

Logan Pullin moved into the top 10, competing as an individual, shooting a 75 in the third round to finish ninth with a 226. Jack Carroll shot a 77 to end the event with a 235 to finish tied for 25th. Ian Cameron finished in 36th with a score of 242. 

Southwestern will compete in the SCAC Championships next week, competing on Monday, April 19 and Tuesday, April 20 at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas.
