Men's Golf Ties for Eleventh at Jekyll Island Collegiate

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Men's Golf competed at the annual Jekyll Island Collegiate this past weekend at the King and Prince Golf Course in St. Simons Island, Georgia. The Pirates ended in a tie for eleventh alongside #9 Sewanee, #11 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and #18 Kenyon. The Pirates went up against a total of fifteen teams ranked in the Top 25 of the GCAA coaches poll for March 22nd. The men's golf team tied or bested seven of the teams ranked in the top 25 in the field of thirty teams. 

HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Ricky Mitchell was the best finisher on the Pirates squad, ending in a tie for fifteenth. He shot a three-round score of 220, firing even par 71, and 72 in his last two rounds. 
  • Ethan Bridges had the best final round for Southwestern, going -2 (70) with just two bogeys on his card. He would end in a tie for forty-four. 
  • Bryce Stiemert closed the tournament in a tie for fifty-third, and Stiemert's best round came in round two, shooting an even-par 71. 

NOTES

  • Sam McClure went all three rounds carding scores under 80 (78, 74, 74). He tied his teammate Stiemert in fifty-third position. 
  • Matthew Peesker scored par on sixteen out of the eighteen holes in round three, he capped off his tournament with a 74 (+2).
  • The Pirates shot the best third round out of any team in the field with a collective team score of 290.

  • Southwestern Golf will host the men's and women's West Region Invitational at Berry Creek Country Club in Georgetown, Texas, on April 8th and 9th.
