Pirates sit in 6th among nation’s elite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Amongst the top NCAA III men's golf teams the Southwestern University men's golf team took aim at the Columbus Country Club for the first and second rounds of the historic Gordin Classic Monday.

Accepting the invitation to one of the most prestigious small college golf tournament the Pirates fired a 591 on day one of the Gordin Classic and sit in sixth place. All five teams that sit ahead of the Pirates also competed at last year's national championships that saw Southwestern finish 14th.

St. John Fisher holds the team lead after a 576 on day one followed by Methodist and Wittenberg tied for second after shooting a 582.Guilford and Transylvania will start Tuesday's final round in fourth and fifth respectively after finishing with a 586 and 590.

Individual results were not available on Monday evening.

The tournament's final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
