Men's Golf Finishes Second in San Antonio Shootout

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University men's golf team opened up their spring season at the San Antonio Shootout this week, competing at the Canyons and Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, home of the Valero Texas Open. The tournament was cut to 45 holes due to a frost delay on Monday, each team played 18 and 9 for the first two rounds and 18 in the final round. Southwestern took home the runner-up spot in the tournament, just five shots behind the tournament winner, Redlands University. Two Pirates earned medalist honors, sophomore Ethan Bridges took home third place in the event while junior Matthew Peesker earned fourth place overall. 

 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ethan Bridges carded a -1, 71 in his final round of the tournament on the Oaks Course, ending his week with a total score of 184 (+4).
  • Matthew Peesker shot 76 in rounds one and three of the tournament and shot -1 in the nine-hole round to finish with a total score of 187 (+7).
  • Bryce Stiemert was the third Pirate to finish in the Top 15 of the competition, ending in a tie for 11th overall. 
  • Southwestern as a team totaled 756 shots for the tournament for scoring players, a combined +36 (307, 141, 308).

  • The Pirate men's golf team will compete in the FST Invitational on March 11th and 12th at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Texas.
