THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Behind tournament medalist Cade Osgood, Southwestern University earned its third consecutive SCAC men's golf title Tuesday afternoon at Panther Trail Course at the Golf Trails of The Woodlands.
Osgood defeated Schriener University's Jason Lopez on the first playoff hole to earn medalist honors.
Osgood navigated the 6,908-yard, par 72 course with a three-round score of 222 (+6) before besting Lopez in a playoff.
Southwestern's Tyler Gammill, the two-time defending medalist of the event, earned Second Team All-SCAC honors with a 230 and teammate Sutherland Stith also cracked the Second Team with a 231.
Matthew Christl was consistent on the challenging course with a three-round score of 235 (78-78-79) while Devon Horne posted a 242 (85-75-82).
The Pirates finished with a score of 915 (+51), six shots better than second-place Schriener who had a 921. Texas Lutheran University was third with a team score of 922.
Southwestern is the first men's golf program to win three straight SCAC titles since Oglethorpe won four consecutive championships from 2000 to 2003.
Despite winning the tournament, Southwestern will have to await the results of the NCAA Selection Show next week to learn if they have earned a berth into the NCAA Division III National Championship hosted by Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., May 15-18. The SCAC does not have an automatic bid in the sport of men's golf.
