Men's Golf Takes 18th at Jekyll Island Collegiate

The Southwestern Men's Golf team competed this week at the Jekyll Island Collegiate in Jekyll Island, Georgia competing against an extremely competitive field. The Pirates competed on the Pine Lakes course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club which plays as the longest course on the island and features several challenging holes lined by trees, bunkers, and marsh areas. 

The Pirates began the tournament with a first-round score of 299 with a strong performance from all 5 golfers on the team. Day two brought more challenges for the entire field as storms blew in and brought cold temperatures, strong winds, and rain. Despite the challenging conditions, the Pirates were able to see improvement as a team shooting 294. Christian Rodriguez and Matthew Peesker both made significant improvements shooting a 1-under 71 for round two. Round three continued to challenge the players as the weather remained cold and windy throughout the entirety of the round. Christian Rodriguez led the Pirates shooting a 1-over 73 and tieing for 30th overall at the event. Nicholas Hoisington (223 - tied for 56th) and Bryce Stiemert (234 - tied for 114th) both improved on the final day of the tournament to contribute to the team total. Rounding out the team scores for the Jekyll Island Collegiate were Matthew Peesker (226 - tied for 72nd) and Logan Pullin (237 - tied for 123rd). 

The Southwestern University Men's Golf Team will compete again on March 27th-28th in Round Rock, TX at the Linda Lowery Invitational.
