Christian Rodriguez In First After First Round At Alamo City Classic

SAN ANTONIO — Southwestern men's golfer Christian Rodriguez leads the field after the first day of the Alamo City Classic at The Quarry Golf Club, scoring a 135 through two rounds to finish three strokes ahead of second-place DJ Springer from Trinity University. 

Rodriguez scored 12 birdies through the first two rounds, nailing three Par 4s and two Par 5s in the first round, scoring a 69, and five Par 4s and two Par 5s in the second to score a 66. 

Southwestern is currently in fourth place, scoring a combined 588 after the first two rounds, sitting one stroke ahead of Schreiner University and 16 off first-place Trinity. Thomas Kuznar is the only other Pirate in the top 15, scoring a 145, which is currently tied for 11th. Colin O'Hern shot a 153 and is in 27th place. Austin Kelley scored a 158, ending the day in 32nd, and Matthew Peesker has a 159 and is in 33rd. Bryce Stiemert, playing in the event as an individual, scored a 160 for 34th place.
