SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Christian Rodriguez's brilliant performance of 4-under, 209 for the three day, 54-hole Alamo City Classic earned the senior a third-place finish at the par 71, 6,699-yard The Quarry Golf Club.

Rodriguez showed off his senior leadership abilities for the Southwestern University men's golf team leading by example en route to improving upon a 1-over, 72 after Round 1 to a 3-under and 2-under on the final two days, respectively.

The Pirates, as a team, performed outstandingly and finished in third place just seven shots behind tournament winners and host Trinity University, who carded a 3-under, 849 as a team. Mary Hardin-Baylor finished just one shot better than Southwestern for second.

Southwestern's Nicholas Hoisington found himself in the lead after the first round with a 3-under 89 including birdies on holes nine, 11, 13 and 15. A 2-over par on Round 2 would see Hoisington drop down to a three-way tie for fourth before an even par Round 3 saw him finish tied for fifth at 1-under overall.

Bryce Stiemert played consistently throughout the event going 3-over on each of the first two rounds and 1-over for the final round for a 7-over, 220 for a tie in 21st position.

Rex Newsom and Matthew Peesker found themselves rounding out the roster that made the trip to San Antonio for head coach Greg Sigler.

Newsom, a freshman from Lubbock, Texas, and Peekser, a sophomore from Toronto, Ont., Canada, both finished with an 11-over for a three-way tie for 29th place.

Mary Hardin-Baylor's William Sammons and Trinity's Jacob Mason tallied identical 5-unders for a share of the individual medalist honors.
