Men's Golf Wins Abilene Invitational To Close Its Fall Schedule

ABILENE, Texas — Fresh off a strong performance at the Golfweek Fall Invitational that helped to move them up to ninth in the national polls, the Southwestern University Pirates men's golf team wrapped up its fall season with a victory at the Abilene Invitational. 

The Pirates started strong, finishing with a second-best combined score of 289 in the first round; falling one shot short of McMurry University's 288. Southwestern shaved four shots off of that in Round 2, finishing one shot off Texas Lutheran's 284 to finish atop the leaderboard with a combined score of 574

Cade Osgood and Matthew Christl tied for second on the individual leaderboard, each finishing two under par at 140. McMurry University's Clemente Yanes finished as the individual leader at 139. John Kellum also finished in the top 10 for the Pirates, tied with four others for eighth place at two over par for a 144 total. 

Osgood had the best round of the invitational, scoring a 67 in the first round. Christl and Osgood did much of their damage on Par 4s with each finishing four under. The Pirates led the field with 26 birdies, with Christl and Osgood combining for 15 with seven and eight. Sutherland Stith had five and Kellum had four. 

It was the second first-place finish for the Pirates, who also won the John Bohmann Invitational in Seguin, Texas and placed fifth at the Rhodes Collegiate Classic in Mississippi. Southwestern finished third at the Golfweek Invitational.
