Men's Tennis Sweeps Weekly SCAC Honors

GEORGETOWN, TX - Men's Tennis is off to a great start of the 2024 season and Oscar Roy and Ashton Ellis have helped their team be 5-0 with some bigtime wins on the court. 

Oscar Roy, a junior from Ontario, Canada, has been selected as the SCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, March 4, through Sunday, March 10.  

Roy defeated the nation's fifth-ranked player, Raghav Jangbahadur of Carnegie Mellon, 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, on Wednesday, leading 17th-ranked Southwestern to a 5-4 victory over the 18th-ranked Tartans. He ended his week with a straight-sets, 6-3, 6-4, win over Rhodes' Christian Mainella. 

Ashton Ellis and Oscar Roy, have been named the SCAC Men's Doubles Team of the Week for matches played from Monday, March 4 through Sunday, March 10.  

Ellis, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, La., and last year's Newcomer-of-the-Year Award winner, and Roy, a junior from Ontario, Canada, went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles in the Pirates' two victories this week. 

The duo defeated the 11th-ranked team in Division III, Raghav Jangbahadur and Daniel Kong of Carnegie Mellon, in the 17th-ranked Pirates' 5-4 victory over the 18-ranked Tartans on Wednesday. They followed with an 8-4 victory over the top-line team from Rhodes in Southwestern's 5-4 victory over the previously undefeated Lynx on Sunday.
