SHERMAN, Texas — Southwestern men's tennis scored a decisive 8-1 victory over the Austin College Kangaroos on Saturday.

The Pirates put together a strong performance in doubles, sweeping Austin College with Drew Shuvalov and Carlos Esteban Rodero scoring a nailbiter 8-7 victory over Preston Spivey and Brett O'Brien in No. 1 doubles. Hunter Bajoit and Vesko Lekovic defeated Joseph Carrillo and Tate Nelson 8-1 in No. 2 doubles, and Alexander Joseph and Steven Tibbetts completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory in No. 3 doubles.

"We played the best doubles we've played all year and were able to pull out a tough one at No. 1 against a very solid team," head coach Billy Porter said.

Lekovic lost a tough, three-set match in No. 1 singles but the rest of the team won their matches in straight sets. Bajoit defeated Spivey 6-1, 6-1, Joseph bested Carrillo 6-0, 6-0, and Esteban Rodero scored a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Tibbets swept Cochran with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories, and Nicolas Guarin won 6-1, 6-2, over Williams Dixon.

"Steven is on a real hot streak as of late and played lights out again today," Porter said. "Vesko lost a rough one at No. 1  by not playing the smartest tennis. We are confident he will learn from it."
