Men's Tennis Defeats UMHB

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Southwestern men's tennis remained undefeated with a 9-0 victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders.

Hunter Bajoit and Vesko Lekovic won a hard-fought match over Alejandro Omana and Cody Aaron in No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-4. Alexander Joseph and Steven Tibbetts scored a decisive 8-1 victory over Robert Galligan and Thomas Knightstep in No. 2 doubles. Carlos Esteban Rodero and Millan Fernandes defeated Mark Vinson and Ty Marshall 8-3 in the No. 3 spot.

"Vesko and Hunter got off to a hot start but then found themselves in a battle before raising their game and pulling away," head coach Billy Porter said.

In singles, Lekovic was challenged in the No. 1 spot before pulling away for the 6-4, 7-5 win. Bajoit was up 5-1 in the first set before Cody Aaron withdrew. Joseph defeated Robert Galligan 6-2, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, and Esteban Rodero won 6-0, 6-1 over Vinson in No. 4 singles. Tibbetts defeated Knightstep 6-0, 6-0, and Anton Borovik defeated Ty Marshall 6-1, 6-0.

"Anton was back in the lineup tonight and stayed very level-headed, allowing him to dominate the match," Porter said. "Vesko continues to grow at No. 1 and is learning how to win there, which is a huge difference from No. 6 last year. I'm proud of the way he hung in there when it got tight in the second set."

Southwestern improves to 11-0 with the win. The Pirates will travel to face LeTourneau on Saturday, April 10.
