TEMPE, Ariz. – Billy Porter was named the Wilson/ITA Men's Tennis West Region Coach of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Thursday.

Porter guided Southwestern to an 18-7 record and the program's first-ever national ranking. The Pirates also advanced to the SCAC championship match for the third consecutive season.

Under Porter's tutelage during the 2016-17 campaign, four players earned all-league honors, including Alexis Dimanche, who was named SCAC Newcomer of the Year.

Additionally, Nickoloz Snovely and Grant Gideon became the first two players to qualify for the NCAA Championships, as the pair will compete in the doubles bracket May 25-27 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
