Men’s tennis blanks Howard Payne

GEORGETOWN – The Southwestern men's tennis team displayed another dominate performance Wednesday posting a 9-0 win over Howard Payne.

The Pirates moved to 2-0 on the year after a solid team outing.

The Yellow Jackets pushed the Pirates in doubles action before Southwestern pushed ahead in all three matches. Niko Snovely and Derek Grass claimed an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles while Alvaro Rojas and Edward Yu took a win at No. 3 doubles by the same score.

Egan Cornachione and Sam McCready also cruised to an 8-1 win at the No. 2 spot.

In singles, the top of the Pirates lineup needed little time to post wins at the top three spots. Snovely claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win as Cornachione also posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The middle of the Pirates order had to work a little harder to earn their wins. Rojas was pushed by Edgar Torres at No. 4 singles before claiming a 6-7, 7-5, 10-2 win, while Yu also claimed a hard fought 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 win.

The Pirates return to the courts next Friday as the begin a seven match road swing starting at East Texas Baptist.
