Men's Tennis Takes Ninth at SCAC Championships

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Men's tennis ended their 2012 season with a ninth place finish at the SCAC Conference Tournament.

The Pirates kicked off the event with Millsaps College on Friday. Southwestern opened going 1-2 in doubles action with Alec Bergerson and Jonathan Sandoval getting the #3 doubles win 8-6. Alex Lam and Alexander Reinsch (#1) and Andy Clarage and Dax Collison (#2) both fell 8-3 in their matches.

As singles matches got underway the top four of Millsaps pulled out the wins to secure the victory and advance. Sandoval and Collison both won their singles matches in the #5 and #6 slot, respectively. Sandoval won in a tie breaker 6-3, 5-7, 10-7 while Collison cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

The Pirates entered day two with a new game plan and started off strong going 2-1 in doubles. Lam/Reinsch were locked in a battle in #1 doubles and won 8-5 to set the tone. Clarage/Collison fell 8-5 in a hard fought match in #2 but Sandoval/Bergerson easily won their #3 doubles match 8-3.

With two wins under their belt and needing just three more to take the win the Pirates headed out for singles play. Lam and Clarage faced tough competition in #1 and #2 singles and fell 6-3, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-0, respectively.

Bergerson got the Pirates back on the winning track with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Dunson in #3 singles. Sandoval was just narrowly bested in #4 singles, falling 7-6 (7-1), 6-4. Dax Collison and Edward Yu secured crucial wins in #5 and #6 singles to hand Southwestern the victory. Collison won 6-3, 6-3 while Yu rolled to an easy win 6-1, 6-0.

The Pirates took home ninth place honors with the win over Hendrix, tying their 2011 finish.
