Men's Tennis Drops Two in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Over the weekend the Southwestern men's tennis team faced their first conference opponents of the season. The Pirates fell 9-0 to Birmingham Southern College and 8-1 to Millsaps.

SU opened the weekend with an extremely talented Birmingham Southern squad that is undefeated so far this season. Edward Yu and Dax Collison were close to giving Southwestern their first win of the match, going up 7-4 in #3 doubles. BSC was able to steal the victory in extras to secure a sweep of doubles matches 3-0.

Alexander Reinsch and Alex Lam started strong in #1 and #2 singles respectively, poised to put SU on the board. Ultimately, the Panthers were too much for the Pirates to handle as they won 6-4, 6-1 and 7-6, 6-2 en route to a 9-0 match win.

The afternoon brought Southwestern up against Millsaps College and once again the Pirates battled hard in doubles matches but just narrowly came up short, falling by three points or less in all three matches.

Lam turned things around in singles action to win over Bastian 6-4, 6-2 to give Southwestern their first point. It would turn out as their only point as the Majors closed out the match by taking all five other singles matches, handing SU the 8-1 loss.

Southwestern, now 1-4 in the spring, has some down time before returning to the courts after spring break to face Southeastern Oklahoma on March 23rd at home.
