Pirates Close Regular Season

The Southwestern men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up their regular season with a home match against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The women were defeated 6-3 but showed vast improvement over their dual meet earlier in the year in which they lost 9-0.

Lali Satyavada and Victoria DeLeon played a great match in #2 doubles and stuck out the 8-6 win despite UMHB's final push.

Satyavada took that momentum over to the singles match, defeating Knight in #5 singles 6-4, 6-2. Kendall Hogenson played a hard fought match in the #6 slot but couldn't pull out the tie breaker wins as she fell 6-7 (1), 6-4, 7-6 (9). Elyse Bigler also earned a win in #2 singles. She battled to win the first set in a tie breaker 7-6 (6) and then cruised in set two 6-4 to win. Jessica Gaines and Amiee Blake also forced third sets but were narrowly defeated as UMHB snuck out the win.

On the men's side Southwestern's injuries continue to hinder their team score, but the men showed put up some promising performances despite the tough situation. Alex Lam and Alexander Reinsch narrowly lost a hard fought doubles match in the #1 slot, falling 8-6 to Pownall/White.

Reinsch continued to play well through singles matches, but ultimately fell 6-2, 7-6 (3) to Summers in #2 singles. Anthony Pritchett also had a strong singles match despite falling 7-5, 6-4 in #6 singles.

Both teams head to Little Rock, AR for the the SCAC Championships beginning on April 22nd. The men will be the 11 seed and face Millsaps in the opening round at 8am while the women are the #7 seed and face Hendrix on Friday at 11am.
