MEN'S TENNIS SPLITS WEEKEND ROAD TRIP

MEN'S TENNIS SPLITS WEEKEND ROAD TRIP

The Southwestern men's tennis team played well over the weekend, narrowly falling to Texas Lutheran on Friday 5-4 and then defeating Schreiner on Saturday 7-2.

SU 4, TLU 5

Doubles actions showed how closely contested the day would be as the Pirates narrowly took control early by winning two of the three doubles matches. D'Art Bebel and Alexander Reinsch defeated Conn/Allen 8-6 and Andrew Olsson and Riley Bunnell defeated Schenk/Packard 8-5. Hartwell/Moellering edged out Chrales Prince and Andrew Clarage 8-5 to keep SU from sweeping doubles action.

Bebel used the momentum he gained in doubles to win his singles match by outlasting Conn 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-2). Reinsch was bested by Hartwell 6-2, 6-1.

Prince easily handled Allen 6-1, 6-2 for the only other Pirate win in singles. Moellering defeated Clarage 6-3, 6-4, Delcambre beat Olsson 6-1, 6-1 and Schneider defeated Bunnell 6-0, 6-1.

SU 7, SU 2

On Saturday Southwestern responded to the narrow loss by easily handling Schreiner 7-2. Lam/Prince had the toughest doubles match-up as they faced Jackson/Streeter and narrowly won 9-8 (7-4). Bebel/Reinsch won over Wells/Franklin 8-1 while Olsson/Bunnell fell to Hernandez/Manchester 8-2.

SU won all but one of their singles matches. Lam started things off with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Jackson. Reinsch followed with a win over Streeter 6-3, 7-5 while Prince beat Hernandez 7-5, 4-6 (10-3).

Bebel controlled his single match over Manchester, winning 6-1, 6-1 as did Clarage who beat Wells 6-2, 6-1. Olsson fell in his singles match 6-4, 6-1 to McClintock.

The Pirates continue action on Friday at LeTourneau and then head to UT-Tyler on Saturday.
