MEN’S TENNIS TOUTS SOLID FOUNDATION TO BUILD FROM FOR 2009-2010 SEASON

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Six men’s tennis players return to the courts at Southwestern University this fall and will provide a solid base from which to build for the start of the fall 2009 season.

SU finished with a 5-10 record in 2009, but the tough schedule proved effective as they took seventh place at the SCAC Conference Tournament. Included in the returners are senior Charles Prince (pictured) and sophomore Alex Lam, both of which were SCAC All-Conference Honorable Mention selections. Lam, the highest All-Conference vote getter for SU in 2009, returns after a sensational first-year that saw him competing in the second flight most of the year in singles and #1 doubles. “The core group of Alex Lam, CJ Esquivel, D'Artagnan Bebel, and Charles Prince, will play a key role in the success of this year's team,” explains Coach Lester Sombito.

Coach Sombito has added five first-years to the mix to continue to expand the program.
"As our Fall season gets underway, I am excited to build upon the foundation that last year's team left,” states Coach Sombito. “We only lost 1 player to graduation, plus we have brought in a first year class that will provide depth and competition to our returning players.”

The Pirates open the season in Brownwood, Texas against Howard Payne University. Matches are slated to begin at 10:00 am.
