Pirates Travel To California For Spring Break Matches

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Men's Tennis traveled to Claremont, CA for the opportunity to play against some top-ranked teams at the Stag-Hen Invitational, including last year's national champions, Case Western Reserve. Case Western Reserve, currently ranked #4 in the Country, handed the Pirates a tough loss, winning 7-0 on Friday afternoon. Later that evening, the #17 Pirates took on #26 Pomona-Pitzer. Pitzer proved to be too much for the Pirates, winning 4-1. Lastly, the Pirates finished out a grueling week of playing five matches against five ranked teams in five days against #33 George Fox. The Bruins outlasted the Pirates, winning 5-2. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Oscar Roy proved he can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the country, going to a third set before falling Case Western in singles at line one versus the defending national champion. He bounced back and won his singles match against the current 12th-ranked singles player from George Fox. 
  • Roy and Ashton Ellis also picked up another win at No. 1 doubles versus GFU, one day after beating the third-ranked team in the country from Pomona-Pitzer.
  • Travis Rafferty and Ryan Flanagan also showed senior leadership, with Rafferty winning a three-setter (6-4 in the third) and Flanagan battling to an 18-16 defeat in the third set versus George Fox.
