GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern men's tennis team built momentum in doubles and carried it to a 6-3 victory over the NCAA Division I Prairie View A&M Panthers.

Hunter Bajoit and Vesko Lekovic opened the match with an 8-4 victory over Rodrigo Yoshikata and Kevin Ugarteche in No. 2 doubles. Alexander Joseph and Steven Tibbetts defeated Tyreese Washington and Caleb Eaton in No. 3 doubles.

Jorge Caballero and Juan Viada put the Panthers on the board with an 8-6 victory over Anton Borovik and Carlos Esteban Rodero in the No. 1 spot.

"Steven and Alex are a new team, and it's hard to tell because they play so well together, and tonight that showed," head coach Billy Porter said. "Anton stepped up for his first doubles action of the year. Although he didn't get the win, he continues to impress."

Steven Tibbetts continued the momentum with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Adrien Blackwell in No. 5 singles, and Alexander Joseph defeated Rodrigo Yoshikata in No. 3 singles. Hunter Bajoit picked up the clincher in No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Juan Viada.

"Hunter got us a huge clinch to take down a Division I opponent and was dominant all night," Porter said.

With the win, the Pirates improved to 5-1 on the season. Southwestern will hit the road this weekend to play Colorado College on Saturday, March 13.
