GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern men's tennis team earned its first win of the season, sweeping the East Texas Baptist University Tigers 9-0 at home.

Southwestern earned a quick pair of 8-1 wins in doubles. Jared Burton and Vesko Lekovic defeated Slade Austin and Randal Lemmon in No. 1 doubles, and Oscar Roy and Hemanshu Rambojun bested Tim Cooley and Parker Stewart in the No. 3 spot.

Anton Borovik and Steven Tibbetts completed the sweep with an 8-4 win over Christian Dubec and Brycen Fears in No. 2 doubles.

"Jared and Vesko came out guns blazing, and Vesko did an outstanding job closing at the net," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says. "Jared did a good job with his returns, and it was a solid point for a new team."

The momentum continued into singles, where Hunter Bajoit scored a 6-0, 6-2 win over Dubc in No. 1 singles. Roy picked up his second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Austin in the No. 2 spots. Tibbets earned a pair of 6-2 victories over Lemmon, and Carlos Esteban Rodero defeated Fears 6-0, 6-1.

Travis Rafferty made his Southwestern debut with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Cooley at No. 5 singles, and Haley defeated Spencer Carey 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.

"Getting Oscar back into our lineup was big, and I thought it was important for him to get his first dual match wins under his belt," Porter says. "Travis got the nod at No. 5 and Daniel at No. 6 today. Both had been pushing to get into the lineup, and it was great to see them both come out with nice wins."

Southwestern will host Sewanee on Sunday, Feb. 20, at noon.
