Men's Tennis Defeats the Schreiner Mountaineers

Southwestern Men's Tennis defeated Schreiner in an away match on Friday, March 3, 2023. The Pirates won 9-0, sweeping all courts.

Getting up 3-0 after doubles was huge in getting the Pirates to the 9-0 victory. The men's doubles chemistry was incredible. All of the teams performed very well. Sebastian Herrera and Steven Tibbetts played together for the first time all season and got a great win at line 3. The two had great communication and drive to win. The energy from their court was contagious and spread to the whole team. Coach Porter was extremely proud and impressed by Herrera and Tibbetts performance, stating, "Sebastian got his first repetition with Steven at number three doubles. They clicked quite well, cruising to an 8-0 win."

Entering singles, the confidence was high among the whole team. This was crucial to keeping the energy up and rolling to win the match. Bernardo Clemente had yet another exceptional performance on court and in Coach Porter's words, "Bernie beat one of the best players in the SCAC playing an exceptional third set tiebreaker sticking to the game plan we put in place." Clemente's match was nothing less than outstanding.

At line five singles, Travis Rafferty played a fabulous match, winning 6-1,6-2. Rafferty's execution and mindset during this match were second to none. Coach Porter was impressed with Rafferty's performance, stating, "Travis looked really solid at number five singles and defended really well especially when his opponent came to the net."

Once again, the Southwestern Men's Tennis team had an outstanding performance and was able to get the victory, 9-0. Don't forget to mark your calendars for the Conference Tournament which will be held here at Southwestern University, April 28-30, at the Pirates' home courts!
