ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The No. 10-ranked Southwestern men's tennis team wrapped up its weekend competing indoors against nationally-ranked competition with an 0-2 record after a 5-4 loss to the No. 25 Christopher Newport University Captains.

Southwestern fell behind 2-1 early with a pair of doubles losses and couldn't make up for it. Anton Borovik and Hemanshu Rambojun earned an 8-6 win over Bently Goodwin and Ahun Vodela in No. 2 doubles, but Hunter Bajoit and Vesko Lekovic lost 8-4 to Ryan Macy and Alec Strause in No. 1 doubles, and Jared Burton and Carlos Esteban Rodero were defeated 8-6 by Matthew Dubuque and Eddy Porsmyr Hansen in No. 3 doubles.

"Anton and Hemanshu bounced back today and got us a huge point at No. 2," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says. "Congrats to CNU on a huge win. They played well enough to deserve the win, and we did not. The results showed."

Bajoit defeated Strause 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, but Lekovic lost in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 4-6) to Ryan Macy in No. 2 singles. Borovik earned a pair of 6-3 wins to defeat Porsmyr Hansen in the No. 3 spot, but Vodela bested Esteban Rodero by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Steven Tibbetts defeated Goodwin 6-3, 6-1 in No. 5 singles. Finally, Dubuque bested Burton 6-4, 6-4 in No. 6 singles.

"We got comfortable wins at No. 1, 3, and 5, but lost close ones at No. 2, 4, and 6," Porter says. "Good teams find ways to win the close ones, and we didn't. At this level, that is the difference."

Southwestern drops to 0-3 with losses to a nationally-ranked NCAA Division II program and two nationally-ranked Division III teams. The Pirates will return home to host East Texas Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a home match against Sewanee on Sunday, Feb. 20, at noon.
