Men's Tennis Defeated by No. 2 Chicago

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Fans flocked to the Marvin D. Henderson tennis courts to watch the No. 23-ranked Southwestern men's tennis team host the No. 2 team in the nation, losing 9-0 to the University of Chicago.

Vesko Lekovic and Hemanshu Rambojun were defeated 8-5 by Christian Alshon and Derek Hsieh in No. 1 doubles, and Hunter Bajoit and Jared Burton lost 8-4 to Arjun Asokumar and Andrei Leonov in No. 2 doubles. Chicago's Sachin Das and Pat Otero defeated Oscar Roy and Carlos Esteban Rodero 8-6 to complete the sweep.

"We batted in doubles, especially at the top line with Vesko and Hemanshu, and just came up a bit short in the end," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says. "It was a huge improvement from their last outing."

Bajoit battled Asokumar tough in top-line singles, losing 6-4, 7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker. In No. 2 doubles, Lekovic was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Alshon. Anton Borovik dropped a 6-1, 6-4 match to Hsieh at No. 3 singles, and Steven Tibbetts was defeated 6-4, 6-1 by Alex Guzhva at No. 4 singles. Roy was shut out 6-0, 6-0 by Das at No. 5 singles, and Burton lost 6-2, 6-1 to Shramay Dhawan.

"Hunter played an excellent player well, and his opponent just found a way late in the breaker to pull away," Porter says. "The atmosphere we set with family, friends, and fans was awesome tonight. It was cool to create that type of environment when hosting the No. 2 team in the nation."

Southwestern drops to 6-5 with the loss. The Pirates will travel to play the University of Incarnate Word this Friday at 5:00 p.m.
