St. Mary's Invite Recap: Men's Tennis

Southwestern Men's Tennis traveled down to DII St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas to compete in the St. Mary's Invite. 92 players competed in the men's singles compass draw format.

In flight one of the Invite, freshman Ashton Ellis was knocked out in the first round of the East bracket but went on to win two matches to win the West bracket. Facing tough competition, most of the Pirates found themselves in the same situation as Ellis, losing in their first-round matchup in the East bracket but finding success once moving down to the West.

Ellis, Travis Rafferty, Anton Borovik, Sebastian Herrera, and Patel Parth were among the group that suffered a first-round loss but were able to bounce back, get two wins, and win the West part of the bracket.

In flights 8 and 10, Rylan Hastings and Joseph Snyman won their respective East brackets, going 3-0 for the weekend. In the 9th flight, Daniel Haley won his first-round matchup but fell in the second round.

In men's doubles, the teams of Daniel Haley and Rylan Hastings, Anton Borovik and Patel Parth, and Travis Rafferty and Sebastian Herrera advanced to the second round of their East bracket. Of these three teams, Haley and Hastings and Rafferty and Herrera advanced to the East final but were unable to compete in the final due to weather conditions.

The Pirates' men's tennis team performance will leave them well prepared to compete in the ITA regional tournament later on in the fall season. The ITA Regional will take place at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, from September 29th through October 2nd.
