San Antonio, TX- This year's ITA Division III Men's Southwest Regional Championship took place on the campus of Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. Despite not winning the singles or doubles Championship, the Pirates showed some incredible grit, resilience, and fight throughout the tournament.

Below, were the ten men who competed in the singles championship draw for the Pirates.

Freshmen Nikolas Moret and Rishi Rajesh competed in B-draw for the men's Southwest Regional ITA.

On the first day, seven of the ten Pirates advanced from the first round of singles. Facing tough competition in the round of 32, Senior Ryan Flanagan, Sophomore Rylan Hastings, and Junior Oscar Roy all moved on to compete in the round of 16. In the round of 16, only Senior Ryan Flanagan manages to advance in the draw. Flanagan was unfortunately knocked out by the number one seed.

In the consolation draw for A-draw singles, after experiencing a loss on day one, Sophomore Joseph Snyman, Senior Travis Rafferty, and Junior Jared Burton all continued to battle. Snyman and Burton faced off in the semi-finals with Snyman advancing to the finals. Sophomore Joseph Snyman became the A-draw consolation Champion.

In the Regional ITA B-draw Southwestern's own Nikolas Moret and Rishi Rajesh battled it out in the finals. Both first years played hard and competed well. Nikolas Moret came out as the B-draw Champion after a third set tie breaker with his teammate.

In the championship doubles draw, the Pirates prepared to compete again. While the Pirates did not do as well in doubles as the previous year, they still fought hard! All doubles teams worked on communication and moving forward more. Both of which will be very beneficial in the Spring season. The doubles team of sophomores Bernardo Clemente and Parth Patel made it as far as the round of 16, representing the Southwestern Pirates well!

The Pirates close out their fall season on a very high note in the ITA Division III Men's Southwest Regional Championship. The men showed much resilience and depth throughout the tournament. The spring season will pick back up in February. Until then, the Pirates will be putting in the hard work and time on and off the court!

"Solid competitive weekend for the Pirates at the Men's 2023 Fall Southwest Region ITA. Freshman Niko Moret and Rishi Rajesh had a great showing in the Men's B draw going 1/2 and then turned around to play a competitive B draw doubs final against ETBU's Couch and Ladner. Senior Ryan Flanagan had a solid run to the quarters. Sophomore's Parth Patel and Bernardo Clemente made it to the quarters in the A doubles draw. Sophomore Joseph Snyman battled his way back to take the A draw back draw win. Lots of positive take aways for the Pirates as we head into the off season," said head coach Nyssa Peele.
