Pirates Fall Short In ITA Regional Championship Matches

SAN ANTONIO — In an ITA Regional Championship match between the two reigning Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Tennis Co-Players of the Year, Trinity's Cameron Krimbill defeated Southwestern's Hunter Bajoit

Bajoit became the first Southwestern men's tennis player to reach the ITA Regional Championship match in program history. The Pirates' senior gave Krimbill, the defending ITA Regional Champion, a challenging first set in a 7-6 loss before Krimbill pulled away for a 6-2 second set to win the championship.

"The level of tennis in the first set was nothing less than insane," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says. "Unfortunately, it took everything out of Hunter, and he simply ran out of gas. He fought to the very end, and I couldn't be prouder of him."

Bajoit and Hemanshu Rambojun reached the ITA Regionals Doubles Final for the second time in three years. Still, they fell short against Trinity's Hao Nguyen and Christian Settles 6-3, 6-0 in the championship match.

"We ran up against a buzzsaw in doubles as Trinity was just better, and there's no other way to put it," Porter says. "We didn't play our best by far, but even if we did, it was going to be tough to take those two down. It was a tough day, losing both championships, but having finalists in both events for our program is a huge accomplishment within itself."
