GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team made a few early adjustments to sail to a 9-0 victory over the Schreiner Mountaineers in the second meeting between the two SCAC teams.

Alexander Joseph and Steven Tibbetts put the Pirates on the board first from the No. 3 doubles position, defeating Mario Gallina and Quinten Robertson 8-2. Hunter Bajoit and Vesko Lekovic followed with an 8-6 victory over Luis Cabreja and Austin Cervantes at No. 2 doubles. Drew Shuvalov and Carlos Esteban Rodero finished the double sweep with an 8-5 win over Carson Kirk and Dennis Miller.

"Drew and Carlos got their revenge from earlier in the season," head coach Billy Porter said. "They went down a break early and battled back. They needed that win and should be proud of how they stayed calm under pressure."

Joseph finished the first singles match from the No. 3 spot, beating Cervantes 6-1, 6-0, and Tibbetts clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Gallinar. Esteban Rodero won 6-2, 6-0 over Miller at No. 4 singles, Bajoit defeated Kirk 6-1, 6-3 from the No. 2 spot, Lekovic rallied for a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Cabreja at No. 1 singles, and Millan Fernandez closed the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Max Schechter at No. 6 singles.

"Vesko went down 1-4 in the first set and made the necessary adjustments to take five straight games. His second set was more routine and played much smarter tennis," Porter said. "Our volunteer assistant, Chas Mayer, did an outstanding job at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles coaching the guys and finding the right tweaks for us to pull out the wins. The guys are so receptive to his coaching, and it really showed tonight."

Southwestern remains undefeated at 10-0. The Pirates will host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday, April 8 at 5:00 p.m.
