GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association ("ITA") has released the NCAA Division III Men's Preseason Top 40 Coaches Poll and Top 10 Regional Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point for the 2023 spring season.

The Southwestern University men's tennis team finds itself ranked in the 19th spot in the national poll and sixth in the West Region. Southwestern has earned its ranking following a fall season in which two of its players, Oscar Roy and Ashton Ellis, claimed a doubles ITA Regional Championship and went on to compete in the ITA Cup. In 2021-2022, the Pirates accumulated a 15-7 record while advancing to the SCAC Championship round. Graduated senior and All-American Hunter Bajoit advanced to the second round of the NCAA Singles tournament defeating Case Western Reserve University's Ansh Shah and becoming the program's all-time winningest player. The men's tennis program ended the 2021-2022 season ranked 19th in the nation and sixth in the West Region.

It is defending NCAA Champions, the University of Chicago, coming in at the top spot in the Jan. 17 Preseason Rankings. The Maroons only dropped one match during the 2022 season and were victors in their final 15 matches of the season.

Just behind UChicago is the 2022 ITA National Team Indoor Champions, Case Western Reserve. Rounding out the Top 5 of the Jan. 17 Preseason Rankings will be Middlebury (No. 3), Tufts (No. 4), and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (No. 5).

The Pirates will kick off the spring season at home, facing Austin College on Friday, February 10th at 5:00 PM.
