Men's Tennis Shuts Down LeTourneau

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The No. 24-ranked Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team shutout LeTourneau by a score of 8-0, winning the first of two home matches.

Alex Joseph and Dean Dulthummon put the Pirates on the board with a quick 8-2 victory over Nathan Schmidt and Rodrigo Vazquez in No. 2 doubles. Hunter Bajoit and Hemanshu Rambojun bested Jimmie Henson and Christian Farris 8-4 in No. 1 doubles and Alexis Dimanche and Carlos Esteban Rodero won a hard-fought 8-7 match over Julian Lee and Miles Grubbs, taking the tiebreaker 7-4. ­

"Alex and Dean played great doubles and got us a point very early, which the other two teams fed off of," Head Coach Billy Porter said.

Joseph opened singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 3 spot over Schmidt to put the Pirates up 4-0. Bajoit followed with a win in the No. 2 spot over Christian Farris to clinch the match.

Dimanche was the third Pirates to finish, defeating Henson 6-2, 6-4 in No. 1 singles. Steven Tibbetts cleaned up at No. 5, defeating Rodrigo Vazquez 6-1, 6-4. Dean Dulthummon ended the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Julian Lee.

"Hunter played pretty aggressive in singles today and I love the way he transitioned in attacking the short balls," Porter said. "And Steven was a rock for us at the five spot this morning, playing really solid tennis."

With the win, the Pirates improved to 4-1 on the season. They improved to 5-1 after defeating McMurry. Southwestern will travel to Seguin to face Texas Lutheran University on Thursday, March 5.
