Southwestern defends home court with wins over HSU and Schreiner

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern men's tennis got back to their winning ways Saturday, defeating Hardin-Simmons 7-2 and Schreiner 8-1. 

SOUTHWESTERN 7 - HARDIN-SIMMONS 2

Grant Gideon and Alexis Dimanche started the Pirates off strong in doubles play, easily handling Fields/Davis 8-2 at #1 doubles. Tyler Norman and David Strong narrowly dropped their #2 doubles match falling 9-8 (5) to Hunt/Livingston. Jeremy Wilson and Dean Dulthummon took down Weinkam/Boyd 8-6 in #3 doubles to give Southwestern the early lead. 

As singles play got underway it became evident early that the Pirates had the match in their control. Dulthummon (#2) won in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 as did Alonso Fernandez (#6) over Boyd 6-3, 6-1. 

Tyler Norman (#4) battled at #3 singles to win 6-4, 7-5 while Gideon (#3) outlasted Fields in a tough first set 7-6 (4) and then took the second set easily 6-2. After dropping the first set at #1 singles, Dimanche quickly rebounded to win the final two sets 7-5, 6-2. 

SOUTHWESTERN 8 - SCHREINER 1

Schreiner was able to sneak one win away from the Pirates at the start of double play but Gideon/Dimanche (#1) and Wilson/Dulthummon (#3) took care of business to put the Pirates up 2-1. 

Southwestern swept singles play, not dropping a single set on the afternoon to secure the win. 

The Pirates head to Belton on Sunday to face Mary Hardin-Baylor.
